Q. Can I make an original character?
A. Most characters in this game will be semi-original. We would prefer children of canon children be picked up first. We may consider completely original characters at another point in time.
Q. Can my character have a canon mother and a muggle father? A muggle mother and a canon father? Or two canon parents?
A. Canon characters are on a first come first serve basis unless already parents in canon. The first person to apply for a child with a canon mother/father gets to set the bar for that character. Located HERE is the current list of taken parents and their available children, as well as links to their wiki pages.
Q. What is the difference between Harry Potter-type Wizards and Charmed-type Witches?
A. The full explanation is HERE. In simple terms, neither title is gender specific (there are male witches and female wizards depending on fandom). Witches are generally good and subject to karma if they use magic for personal gain, and at risk of becoming warlocks if they use their magic for pure evil. Wizards are neutral, have no moral obligations, and are not at risk if they use magic for evil.
Q. Can I play a white lighter or a ghost?
A. The only white lighters and ghosts allowed are the ones listed on the AVAILABLE LIST or any ghost listed in canon who has not moved on yet.
Q. Can I play a demon?
A. At this time we are restricting play to wizards/witches, lower-level demons, and a select few white lighters and ghosts.
Q. Are there specific characters needed for plot?
A. Character requests from the current players are listed in the comments HERE.
Q. Can my HP character have a power/special ability like the Charmed characters?
A. HP characters have the opportunity to train with the Charmed characters and learn/develop an active power in game.
Q. What powers/special abilities are available? Is there a limit?
A. Yes. The powers and limits are listed HERE.
Q. Why isn't orbing/apparating/shimmering/etc on the powers list?
A. Every character at least 17 years old has some form of teleportation, so we didn't figure it was necessary.
Q. Can my HP character have an internet blog? Can my Charmed character have a magical journal?
A. Blogs and journals are given on a case-by-case basis. Anyone who visits Diagon Alley may purchase a magical journal. All students at Salem's have access to the internet and may create a blog.
Q. Can my character visit the Underworld or Up-There with the Elders?
A. Not without mod approval, which will be given very selectively.
Q. Who is the Minister of Magic? Who runs Hogwarts/Salem's? Who runs the Leaky Cauldron/3 Broomsticks/Hogs Head? Can I play these people?
A. Minister of Magic is Kingsley Shacklebolt. Listed HERE are the other Department Heads and Officials. Minerva McGonagall is Headmistress of Hogwarts. Leo Wyatt is Headmaster of Salem's Institute (Magic School). Hannah (Abbott) Longbottom runs the Leaky Cauldron. Madame Rosmerta is still running the Three Broomsticks and Aberforth Dumbledore is still running the Hogs Head.
Q. How is Salem's different from Hogwarts?
A. +Howarts is the same as it's always been. You cannot apparate or orb in or out.
+Salem's is much different. There are no houses, just male & female dorms which have regular locks on the doors. Salem's has about 100 students with no specific pattern of male/female. Most classes have computers and allow laptop use during class. Upper-class students are allowed in Salem proper on weekends. There is one special door only accessibly by staff and Halliwells that leads to Salem or the Manor, depending on which spell is cast on it. Nothing on the grounds is forbidden.
Q. How does the exchange student program work? Who is in it? How do I get my character in it?
A. Seventh Years/Seniors and Sixth Years/Juniors are allowed to attend another school for one year to study abroad. They will live on the campus of that school and take the classes and tests that those students take. And when the year is up they return home. As simple as regular exchange student programs. The list of current characters in the exchange program is HERE.
Q. Do I have to label my posts? Do I have to tag my pots?
A. Yes! Magical journal entries have to be marked {Journal Entry} and internet blog posts must be marked {Blog Posts}. Owls must be under a cut and labeled "Owl to WHOEVER". Voice Mails/Phone Calls must be under a cut and labeled "Voice Mail/Phone Call to WHOEVER". And threads must be labeled with some variation of Who, When, Where, What, Rating, and Status. Tags are done by full first and full last names (please be sure to check that there aren't multiple versions of your characters tag if they go by a nickname. ie william weasley vs bill weasley) and II for children who have canon family with the same name (ie lily potter ii, prudence halliwell ii).
